The tenth edition of the COMBAT PRIZE came to an end on Saturday, 13 July when the judges announced the winners in the beautiful gilded setting of the “Room of Mirrors” in the Museo Giovanni Fattori in Livorno.
The judging panel - Andrea Bruciati, Daniele De Luigi, Francesca
Baboni, Lorenzo Balbi, Matteo Bergamini, Paola Tognon e
Stefano Taddei, selected Alessandro Fogo with
"L’antica leggenda della foglia di
cavolo (The Ancient Legend of the Cabbage Leaf)" as the winner in the Painting
Section. The motivation for their decision reads: for a painting study that refers to the universal
stylistic elements of a past that still reverberates in the present, charged with new meanings starting from a
depiction that is heedful of the poetics of the unreal and imaginary.
Honourable Mention to Giacomo Modolo.
The winner in the Photography Section is Alisa Martynova with "Untitled" from the “NowhereNear”series, for her ability to tackle
a pressingly relevant topic going beyond the mass media models and schemas, exploring migrants’ dreams, memories and
desires through symbolic images.
Honourable Mention to Irene
Lupi.
Silvia
Inselvini is the winner in the Graphics Section with "Notturni (Nocturnes)", for the continuity of a corpus in which
lines become atmosphere, constructing essential, complex and even unconscious processes.
Honourable Mention to Giulia
Lazzaron.
The judges declared Nuvola
Ravera the winner in the Sculpture/Installation Section for her "Soapopera" project that transforms obsessions such as body care, and
personal spatial and psychological boundaries into an installation that calls up social rituals in public and private
milieus.
Honourable Mention to Matteo
Messori.
For the Video Section the panel awarded the prize to Luisa Turuani for "Non sto più nella pelle (I’m Just a Bundle of Nerves)," and her ability to deal with feelings and sensations that reflect the restlessness of the body-space relationship with light-hearted wit, by animating a large object that lives in a small space and hides the artist’s identity.
Honourable Mention to Maria
Pecchioli.
As to the special awards, the Fattori Contemporaneo Award for the creation of a site-specific project at the Musei Civici di Livorno, Museo della Città - Luogo Pio Arte Contemporanea and the Museo Giovanni Fattori, next scheduled for 2020, went to a Emilio Vavarella for the coherency of a study examining the relationship between technology and representation using different mediums (photography, video, sculpture, installation, web).
