Artwork description / Biography

I grew up in a country where black migration doesn’t exist. The work has come out as a result of a curiousity and my inner struggle against prejudices. I wanted to discover a power that makes a person move places. One of the motives has come out to be a dream. Dream as a desire for future, daydreaming, or a nightmare that appears when a dream doesn’t get fulfilled and remains a recurring vision of something that can never be reached. What is in the mind of a person who decides to pursue his dream physically moving from one place to another, overcoming barriers, struggling to reach his own Eldorado, building his American dream that often puffs away like a cloud? Surely not all the migrant stories suit this project, it is a sort of an immaginary seeing, an attempt to put myself into their shoes and see the world through their eyes trying to explore migration as a personal matter and not as a mass movement.
My name is Alisa Martynova, 24 years old. I grew up in Orenburg, Russia, came to Florence in 2015 to take studies in photography school Fondazione Studio Marangoni.
