Winners of Combat Prize 2013
The fourth edition of PREMIO COMBAT PRIZE 2013 ended on Saturday 6 July, in the extraordinary background of the Natural History Museum of Livorno. Winners have been selected paying attention to innovation and talent.
The jury, composed by Andrea Bruciati, Antonio Arévalo, Francesca Baboni, Gigliola Foschi, Marco Tonelli, Mrdjan Bajic, Stefano Taddei chose as the winner of the Painting section Giovanni SARTORI BRAIDO, finding his artwork "Strutture abbandonate" able to create surprising artificial atmospheres in frozen spaces, forgotten images coming from various times and contexts, but exhumed from their oblivion in connection with computer graphics. Also able to give a strong feeling of abstraction and human melancholy to it all.
A special mention of the jury for the second awarded Lorenzo Aceto.
The winner of the Photography section chosen by the jury is Manuel COSENTINO with the photograph "Behind a little house", for his rigorously developed reflection upon time. An artwork able to interact with the public and to involve it in a playful and creative way, without remaining closed in itself and in its authorial sign. So, the photograph turns into an open narration. The choice of the subject draws visual attention to an intimate aspect of reality, considered secondary but still part of our immaginary.
Special mention of the jury for Marco Cadioli and Paula Anta.
The Graphic Arts section's winner is Anna GRAMACCIA with the artwork "Private Garden", chosen for the meticolous ability to shape the framework as a fabric that gives the two-dimensionality of the graphics an unexpected sensuality and materiality.
For these reasons, coherently connected to a tradition that merges landscape and private memory, the author enhances the psychic and spatial potentialities of the sign.
Special mention of the jury for the second awarded Simone Zaccagnini.
The winner of the new Sculpture and Installation section is Elisa STRINNA with the artwork “Sinfonie Sismiche”, because of her ability to combine the mechanical and aesthetic function in a recreational object that, although facing a dramatic theme, manages to convert it without cynicism in a poetic event. An artwork that uses poor but complex technology, that recalls memories (even if catastrophic ones) and that knows how to update and renew itself every time adding event to event, making its internal logic and content immediately understandable.
he Video section's winner is Giusy PIRROTTA with the artwork "Chroma", chosen by the jury because able to plumb with originality the endless dephts of the image world's fiction.
The ambiguity of a mis-en-scene, balanced between a theatrical and cinematographic vision, merges with pictorial references and a decisive chromatic balance.
The two months artist-in-residence scholarships Special Prizes for artists under 35, in Berlin and Belgrado, have been assigned to Nicola Ruben Montini, (Berlin) and Graziano Folata (Belgrado), artists considered by the jury able to successfully face such important formative and cultural experiences. Popolar Jury Prize's winner is Ekaterina Panikanova, and Online Jury Prize's winner is Stefano Amantia.
