The key word in the work of Christos Giannopoulos is the memory. This concept permeates both the oldest and the most recent works, and is attributed both to the themes (book covers, cinematography, photographs, etc.) and to the way of painting in the latest series of landscapes and portraits where the blurry outlines, the limited color range, and the use of color and texture contribute to creating an atmosphere of nostalgia, memories, or forgetfulness, amnesia, as well as historical and personal memory.Christos Giannopoulos was born in Patras in 1981. Ηe studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens, where he graduated, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and at the School of Fine Arts in Porto. In 2017 he was nominated for the Frissira Prize and in 2016 he curated the exhibition ”Dialogo primo: Palia Vlahata” in Cefalonia with artists from Greece and Italy. In 2014 he participated in a workshop residency for artists and curators for site specific artistic practices in Monte Argentario, Italy, and in 2009 he presented his work at Deree as part of the “Atlantis” project, entitled “Democracy in the making: contemporary art practices”, in collaboration with artbox.gr.
