Descrizione Opera / Biografia

In Gao Shengjie’s art practice, she always rethinks and absorbs the idea of counterbalance in the oriental philosophy. It appears to be the form of partly receiving and partly rejection of both symbol and reality. The main concern of her artistic pursuit is that to explore the interplay/interaction between the remote unknown to the individual beings.
Since her first solo exhibition The First Cause 1 in 2010, the idea of how we understand the world based on the individuals has been hovering in her mind, which galvanizes her for further experiments. These practices and explorations toward outward world were barricaded by a sudden serious illness in 2011. It push her derivative desire of questioning and probing the inward world. All of what have mentioned above is the foreshadowing of the Forté Project.
Forté is a musical term that means loud and strong. It is a direct translation from its original Chinese title “明强”2. This is a project consists of a group of film& video installations in a project- specific architecture. In this project, Gao Shengjie intends to probe and question the certain type of ‘spiritual interfacing experience’. By using the minimal technique3 and special sound design system, addressing plots through polyphonic structure and allowing architecture interfere with image representation, there will be various ways to watch the work and to unfold the narrative.
