Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Benoit Pailley (b. 1978) is a New York and Paris based artist and photographer. Represented by the gallery Furini Arte Contemporanea in Rome, Pailley has exhibited at such prestigious institutions as the Centre Pompidou in Paris as well as the Flux Foundation in Geneva.Pailley presents Morpholight his most recent artistic project concerning the architecture of light and it’s evolutionary forms.
Benoit Pailley’s new series titled Morpholight of almost black and white photographs conjures the bipolar themes of desolation and hopefulness in our urban environment.
With the simplest of materials, glass, mirror and a spotlight, Pailley arranges three-dimensional Sol Lewitt- like compositions. One senses skyscrapers casting long shadows, glass facades reflecting upon themselves or monuments basking in regal solitude.
The subtle colored green edges of glass, or the silvery sheen of mirrors, remind us that this is a rich palette in its most subtle form. The spotlight reveal tertiary forms, a secret architecture, waiting to be inhabited.
