Bird Island:
Scientific studies have shown that birds originated as primitive reptiles 150 million years ago. The backbone of vertebrate evolution has been from fish, amphibians, reptiles to mammals and finally the emergence of humans. Birds appeared on Earth a little later than mammals, as a special branch that diverged from Mesozoic reptiles and developed into the air. The long evolutionary process produced a series of morphological structures and physiological functions adapted to a life of flight.
Birds evolved from reptiles, and through billions of years of long historical changes, evolution and development, from a few low-level species gradually formed many complex and advanced species. They have undergone great and diverse changes in many aspects such as body shape, plumage color, and habits. Their species and numbers are second only to fish among vertebrates. Their distribution is worldwide. They can be found in the icy edges of the Arctic; the world’s highest Himalayan mountains; the vast oceans; deep jungles; caves where the sun does not shine; uninhabited deserts; and densely populated cities; in almost every corner of the world.
Lu Yi-Dan was born in Luoyang, China. She was trained in Stage Design and Product Design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera from 2012 to 2017. Her work spans multiple artistic mediums including designing, painting, photography, installation, video, and performance art. Since 2018 through further training in photography in San Francisco, Lu began to focus on the composition of the world expressed by the language of photography. Drawing upon Eastern philosophy and using psychology as a conceptual basis, she starts exploring the underlining foundation on which contemporary societies run. Her work is often shot in multiple countries, incorporating local historical and cultural elements. Her photos opened up inter-temporal dialogue with the viewer, extending two-dimensional plane to three-dimensional space to connect with society and nature.

Lu’s work has been exhibited in various parts of the world: for example, the Shanghai Art Museum, Shanghai; the MA-EC gallery, Milan; and Palazzo Ducale di Urbino, Urbino. Her work was collected by the Italian Consulate in Shanghai and was awarded the honorary title in 2013. She has received awards including the silver of PX3 in 2021, the bronze of Moscow International Foto Awards, 2021.

Now, she has lived and worked in San Francisco.
