Art work description:
The artist is pulling out pearls out of her mouth.
The photo slide video consist of 60 frame played in a loop in 2:20 min. some in a motion blur state, it is as if a battle is taking place. The pearl represent a value, but is it the value that the female possesses – or is it a statement of an unwished grip in the world of the feminine universe. The symbolism and the status of the pearls in our society are battling as in a duel.
Biography:
Evalajka Pervin (Danish, b 1973) is a Danish multi media artist producing work experimenting with video, photo stills, drawing, objects and installation very much related to a feminine world producing interesting work turning perception upside down while investigating the question of women and rituals. Pervin is born in Copenhagen, Denmark and have worked as a self-taught artist the past 23 years.
From childhood memories and the background of her Pakistani parents diaspora this mosaics of work created unfolds silent video experiment with an approach of senses, mind and subject,
creating platform from a philosophical and sociological direction also called self-reflexivity. Insisting to use her self as an object but also crossing the line and limitation this approach could have been giving.
The video created is on the surface self-portraits but in such a demanding way that other layers is revealed. The observer is dragged into a very unique broadcasting where the art becomes a prism.
Pervin’s work has been shown at numerous juried video festivals, including group show in Europe and solo exhibitions in Copenhagen. Web based magazine such as “Ein Magazine” Berlin, “Stigmart” videofocus has selected and promoted Pervin as a video artist.
In 2016 Pervin was selected to create a site-specific artwork at “Das KloHäuschen “ in Münich by Anja Uhlig.
