Descrizione Opera / Biografia

I graduated 2006 as a sculptor from The Academy of Fine Arts / Department Of Sculpture in Helsinki, Finland.
I mostly work with mechanical sculptures which sometimes tend to manipulate the viewers senses quite physically.
My main material seems to be wood, but I use everything that the idea requires.
I see my ideas connected to the noise between man and nature. To The grey area where technology, understanding of nature and the limits of a human being meet. How to show something complicated and almost impossible in our physical realm, but which can still be simplified as an idea and realised as three dimensional object. My mechanical sculptures try to act as a substitute for experiencing impossible things. As a sculptor I’m influenced by the delicate beauty of old scientific instruments of 19th century, I feel that those unique instruments had more contemporary approach to sculpture than the actual sculptor’s of that time had. This is ok, since I tend to do lot of pseudo-scientific experiments for my work in my studio.
