Descrizione Opera / Biografia

In my artistic practice I am interested in topics such as cultural and site-specific belonging, migration, identity, human adaptation or alienation in relation to their environment, surroundings, culture and/or themselves. I am interested in the emotional attachment we have to places that in one way or another have had an impact on our lives, historically and/or personally. Our experience and perception of the world around us, and our place in it, is continuously being represented through different medias available to us in our time.
I mainly work with painting as a medium in addition to drawing, installation and video.
The painting I am applying with is from a series of paintings and drawings from a bigger project called ”Destination : Equator”. The works in this project revolves around the need humans have to map the world around us. From globes, with its’ ever changing borders to Google Earths’ version of a photographic reality, seen through an endless horde of peoples’ camera-lenses and satellite-images, a world where the constant, the variable, the nature-controlled and the man-made is being portrayed. In the same way as sailors and other curious explorers and travelers have throughout time disseminated how and what the world around us is and looks like, Google Earth gives us each travelers’ own geographical and photo-graphical truth. The world as we see it becomes a fictional reality.
The motives for the paintings and drawings in this project have all been collected from photographs found exactly along the Equatorial line on Google Earth, as well as the titles.
I graduated from the Master program in Art at Bergen National Academy of the Arts in 2011 and has since then had several solo and group exhibitions in Norway as well as exhibiting in a group exhibition in Reggio Emilia this spring.
I live and work in Bergen, Norway.
