Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Artwork description and goals:
I was greatly affected by the economic crisis in my country Cyprus, so the underlying theme of my new work series is the concept of power and its potential to corrupt. The aim is to create conflicts , to emphasize the truth disguised in politics and the cryptic messages.
A possible solution could be in the hands of the younger generation whose innocence and optimism are capable of placing limits on power.
However, it is a fine balance and young people can likewise be led astray by the idea of control and influence which power bases naturally entail.
Source of inspiration for this series of paintings are the following quotes :
- ” Power corrupts , and absolute power corrupts absolutely ,” Lord Acton (John Emerich Edward Dalberg, 1st Baron Acton of Aldenham, 1834-1902).
- ” The duty of youth is to challenge corruption ’’ Kurt Cobain
“It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But a half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor.”
― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones
My goal for the future would be to reach a wider audience around the world and begin a dialogue with other artists who are involved with similar issues.
