Biography
The Artist Duarte Vitória, born in Penafiel, Portugal in 1973, lives and works in Porto. Attended Fine Arts School in Oporto in 1993, when He first started to participate in contests, winning some prizes and doing exhibitions (collective and solo). His artistic path includes working with Art Galleries as a resident artist, in the European Commission in Brussels, and various participations in Art Fairs in Europe and the United States. Since 2012 he is a resident artist in Witzenhausen Gallery, Amsterdam and New York. His work is part of several Art collections in Europe and The United States.
The art concept which is in the base of his work is to make people contact with the most visceral emotions of the human condition. This is achieved by choking and disturbing the mind´s viewer with human flesh scenarios, to wake up people from dormant states of consciousness. A part of the work is dedicated to Icons, to bring them back to their humanity, exhibiting their fragile condition. The works are presented in great scales to intensify the visceral effect.
