For ÖFFENTLICHE UNTERSUCHUNG (vaguely translated: public research) waiting people in public,
urban space have been filmed without their awareness or permission and their background has been
removed. We see these people in the light of the commonly debated socitey of control. There is a
relation to exterior control, like in observation or data gathering as well as to self-control as it occurs
in comparison with aesthetic body images. In the exhibithion space the figures appear like objects.
Like something strange and familiar at once. The viewer lapses into a voyeuristic position. At the
same time it can come to the notice and therefore selfcontrol of one´s own body. Between the poles;
familiarity and foreignness, between observation and self-awareness the work unfolds its impact.
2.) Kevin Pawel Matweew was born in Cologne/Germany in 1978. In the Year 2000 he started working as a professional filmmaker. From 2006 till 2010 he studied media-art at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. In 2009 he recieved the special-prize of the society of advancement of arts and media-technology. In 2010 he continued his studies at the Kunstakademie Duesseldorf in the class of Marcel Odenbach. In 2012 he became student of the masterclass and in 2013 he graduated with a diploma. In 2013 he was chosen for an Artist in Residency in the Foundation Kuenstlerdorf Schoeppingen. His work consists of video- and sound-installations aswell as actions and perfomances. It has been shown all over the world. Most recently in St.Petersburg, Hongkong, Toronto and many other cities. He lives and works in Cologne/Germany.
