Premio Combat Prize

This images is from a body of work, called” Si Dios Quiere” which explores issues of intimacy and distance within my mother’s family in Argentina.
This project began with a set of parameters- I used my mother’s childhood home in Buenos Aires as a stage and her family members as characters in the images.
Although the work is particular to my family, the ideas it portrays are not. Psychological aspects of family dynamics, the confusion between love and judgment, amongst other complicated issues- are universal to all families.
This image of the family dinner is a familiar image, but there is an underlying tension and beauty to the scene that epitomizes the idea of ”family”.
The title ”Si Dios Quiere…” means ”If God Wants.” Si Dios quiere is a common phrase used in Latin America to imply that things are out of our hands or that we have to rely on faith. I chose it as a title for this work to imply, if God wants we love our families but the relationship can be filled with both love and difficulty.
