The painting represents a spiritual awakening moment in every possible religion or philosophy - we all aim for redemption. Saint Theresa was a woman and an icon, who experienced enlightenment, and as I myself am going through this journey as well, I wanted to express the moment how it feels: to be bathing in the light and the fire of the universe. I am also a comic book artist and it transfers into the form. In the background I used the words of St. Theresa when she described the moment of her awakening
- in a form of a ”street wall poetry”. The use of materials (background is all gold with gold leaves) was inspired by Venetian art heritage (Tizian) and mosaic art (preciosa stones). My aim was to merge the historic art expression in a contemporary modern form.
