March 20, 2023, 9 degrees, sunshine and light drizzle, unpleasant damp coolness. A young bumblebee queen has settled on the ground. She uses the tiny muscles in her rib cage to generate heat by shivering, reaching a body temperature that allows her to survive and fly. She awoke not long ago, a queen without a court, but they are already within her. She hatched last year, mated and will start the new colony with the seed she has inside. She is one of the few bumblebees that survived the winter. The workers, drones, and old queens died before winter. When the temperatures dropped last year, she looked for a place to overwinter. When temperatures rise again in the spring, the young queen begins to wake up. Just awakened queens only fly for a few seconds, then they have to rest longer. So she laboriously moves on, in search of a suitable place for founding the state, in search of a place where she can give birth to the new bumblebee people. She already carries the entire colony within her and creates her own state.
The 36 images show the queen bumblebee during an extended rest between two short flights in search of a place for her colony. The photos express the state of the being that has just awakened – its hunger, its beauty meeting momentary disorientation and confusion, its trembling, its gradual enlightenment.
Stylistic means of implementation are long exposures with fill-in flash, blurring and standard exposures.
Personal data

Photography has played an important role since the age of 14. In the 1990s, the focus was on successful engagement with competition photography, with acceptances and prizes at photo competitions all over the world (Austrian SuperCircuit, Algarve Photo Salon, PSA exhibitions, etc.). From 2009 he turned to artistic and exhibition photography with various acceptances and exhibitions as part of art photography awards (Hoepfner Foundation third prizewinner, PX3 Paris Gold Medal, finalist YICCA Art Prize, finalist Arte Laguna Prize) and with his own projects and exhibitions.
