DESCRIPCIÓN OBRA PEDRO CUADRA
My paintings, coming from a common trunk and sharing the same genetic load, branch out into different lines of artistic research, keeping among themselves different degrees of consanguinity and an undeniable air of family. This close kinship between my works allows us to identify certain common features in them (configuring an extended family from blood ties that start from the same nucleus) but, at the same time, to distinguish peculiarities that underline the uniqueness of each one of them.
In my work I investigate the variables of painting itself, recurrently exploring and introducing in my pieces resources such as sweeps, changes of scale, repetitions, symmetries, focuses and/or blurs of contours and planes, etc. that generate a recognisable sign of identity; but what is important in my work is not only the final image and its execution but, above all, the process.
My figurative compositions, constructed from digital photomontages in which I resort to diverse sources, associate images that activate and deploy a particular symbolic imaginary - close to magical realism - provoking a paradoxically ”familiar” strangeness in the spectator.
Through my paintings I unfold a fictional story intuited and imagined in a sort of lucid dreams that I then translate plastically, drawing on local and global visual references, which I connect and recombine to produce an ambiguous discourse that requires decoding by the viewer and is open to multiple interpretations.
In short, I propose a round trip that transcends our own reality, making us part of an extended family in an archetypal and strange universe in which we can all recognise ourselves.
