”Can we play nice? Learn to share the sandbox and the toys? This is an invitation to think about how gentrification is affecting our lives and the place we call home. This is also an invitation to consider the advantages of cultural borders and unity. After interacting with the installation you can decide whether gentrification is good or bad, and why. This is a sandbox built over a printed map of the Mission, a San Francisco neighborhood famous for his artistic heritage, and his rising rent price that put people that give character to the neighborhood in danger of displacement. The map is covered with real coins. You are invited to dig in the pool of money to discover the authentic city and see what is happening without judgement. You can uncover the treasures that make the neighborhood special. As you play with the coins you will scratch the acrylic floor of the map. This is a metaphor for what happens when greed blurs our vision.”
