Inner Waving
[concept]
“Inner waving” is a multimedia work in which the fusion of visual and auditory components creates an immersive environment where the public is invited to contemplate.
The installation brings with it a reflection on the use of culture, rationality and technology as a viable means for the discovery of the spirituality and not to move away from it.
All mediums (technologies used for vibration have been developed by the author), have been designed and created for the sole purpose of aesthetic - ecstatic perception and as research utility of an interior side, disconnected from surface contexts and rational functionalization.
Is it possible to use the technological progress for the purpose of inner growth?
At the core of this work is the search for a natural expression free from processing and conceptualizations, aiming at a personal and instinctive vision.
The multimedia environment welcomes the viewer bringing it to a contemplative, meditative perception of the space, looking for the inward turn and not criticism, for the irrational rather than rational.
The work uses eight tub full of water and illuminated, which through the use of a apposite-created transducer, become vibrating outputs. The music becomes a shape through the water and is projected on the walls through the lights. The vibrant and complex space witch is created immerses the audience in the center of the room, and brings it into the inner space of the composer, reaching a non-space where everything is aesthetic and interior.
The work proposes a ”purist” and human perception beyond any critical ability.
[technology]
The installation is based on using the technology of ”surface trasducer”, ie of transducers able to set in vibration a surface through the sound waves. The transducers used were designed and produced by the author and allow a response that it can be applied on hard and hardly excitable surfaces, such as wood, metal plates, etc...
Applying a transducer on each tub are obtained eight separate audio channels on which spatializations and movements of sounds in space are realized.
These audio outputs, using water and light projection, become the visual sources, where the acoustic vibration is translated analogously in motion and shape in the tub and onto the surrounding wall.
Francesco Pellegrino is a Florence-based multidisciplinary artist and musician, whose works include electroacoustic and electronic music, performance and interactive – multimedia installations.
Pellegrino’s work is characterized by a constant experimentation, an aesthetic witch links and evolves with the research of meaning and expression means.
Born in Foggia, Italy, in 1986, after early studies of violin, he begins studying guitar and electroacoustic – electronic music at “Music and new technology” course, in Cherubini conservatory. Here starts the experimentation with sound and media witch brought to the deep research, both theoretical and practical, of the possible connection between expression and medium, between “what” and “how”.
Through technical studies he designs and makes new instruments for expression as the surface trasducer for “injecting” the sound in whatever surface, creating the possibility to give a sound the sound response of a material; he composes for this technology a piece for classic guitar whose sound was injected in a gong and an orchestral timpano; this technology was also used by the famous composer Daniele Lombardi in his piece for piano “lecons de tenebre”.
Moving forward in his studies, for the master thesis, starting from the Marshall McLuhan work on communication, he research the possibility of artistic means thinking about the creating a artwork not “through” media but “as” media; matching with a theoretical work he creates an environment for artistic installations “L.A.R.S.” and compose for this media an audio visual installation called “Little Trip”.
From this point his work as electroacoustic composer always deals with the environment and the creation of a space where art acts; Creating an installation means creating a structure, a little world, with his rules and meanings, where some kind of actions becomes coherent and can find their environment to express.
The musical composition earn a space, virtual in the case of stereo pieces and real with spatialization systems, as well the installations and performances always deal with thin lack between real and virtual world, between the imagination and the media the bring it on a real plane.
