Premio Combat Prize

Diana Stelin strips down and reconstructs traditional notions of landscape painting, using the medium of paint as the subject itself. Blurring the lines between imagery and surface, her work frequently turns abstract, yet is always centered on a theme of her surroundings. Paintings become sculptures on canvas, all the while capturing the essence of a landscape.
Born in 1979 in Chisinau, Moldova, Stelin lives and works in Boston. She received a BFA in Painting from Cornell University in 2001, followed by an MS in Arts Administration from Boston University in 2007.
Recipient of the Johnson Museum of Art’s 1999 ”Cornell Council for the Arts,” grant Stelin also participated in multiple group exhibits around the country.
Ms. Stelin had managed DTR Modern Galleries for eight years, overseeing the gallery’s participation in multiple international art fairs, and establishing long standing artist relationships for its four outposts around US.
