Descrizione Opera / Biografia
My practice centers on the mythology of technology. I aim to critique the utopian idea of technology as a means of transcending human limitations. Our abilities as a society have been augmented by technology, but the machines can still fail.
Ouroboros Machine was filmed in a fish factory during a residency I completed in northeast Iceland. In mythology an ouroboros is the image of a serpent eating its own tail, which represents cyclicality. In Icelandic mythology, Jörmungandr is an ouroboros so large it surrounds the earth. When it eventually lets go of its tail the world will begin to end. I like to compare this myth with the factory machines. If the machines of industry ever stop completely, our society will begin to crumble.
