Artwork description / Biography
In my practice I aim to critique the utopian idea of technology as a means of transcending human limitations. The cyborg, or the human augmented by technology, is a concept closely related to this idea. The cyborg is an indication of society’s desire to merge with technology. Excel reflects on the frustrations of that desire. In the image a human hand holds a metal object that imitates organic form. The object resembles a machine prosthetic or an elaborate organ transplant, however it also appears crude and possibly damaged. As a prosthetic it would create a crippled body, rather than an augmented one.
