Premio Combat Prize

The images I paint reflect situations in which material reality, captured by our senses, is mixed with reality generated by our thoughts, coming from reason.
It´s almost like situations lived into a dream, in which we find elements belonging to our daily life, together with other elements from a different background.
Descartes concluded that there are two different realities: One is the thought, the soul, and the other is the substance.
What we think with the thought does not take place at the body, but in our soul, which is absolutely independent from the extensive reality. Nevertheless, due to the fact that the soul is placed into the body, it gets constantly confused by the feeling and emotions related to body´s needs. I´m interested in reflecting that “duality” between the spiritual and the extensive reality; that´s why I initiate my work looking at the reality catch by my senses, looking at what´s going on around me; nevertheless and doubting whether all around me is real or not, I let a different reality giving sense or a non-sense to the whole situation, almost like trying to “stick the nose” into Platon´s world of thoughts.
BIOGRAPHY
Beatriz Echániz, born in Azcoitia, (Guipuzcoa), currently lives and works in Barcelona.
