Premio Combat Prize

Artwork description/
”Dance to..” installation was produced during the period I was under influence of society of spectacle, idea was very simple and very straight forward, live TV news projected from a digital projector on a disco ball surface, which disperse tiny peaces of TV news images all over the gallery space in straight rays. And in the background you can hear the sound of the news program so you don’t forget what is the source of this visual you are seduced by. Of course, time has a big role in this piece. It will be always and forever different. Next week or in 30 years from now news content will be different.

Martin Mrzljak, living and working in Zagrebu, Croatia. Finished MA in New media at Academy of fine arts in Zagreb mentored by Nicole Hewitt.
My work involves in lots of different subjects and different fields. At the same time I try to explore and experiment as much as possible with different kinds of materials and subjects, put in different contexts. Also with their relationship towards people. Some of my work is influenced by work of Guy Debord, Umberto Eco, Barthes or Franco Berardi. At the moment I focus on the role of the media and information technology within post-industrial capitalism. To me, space plays very essential part of work. So my work always talks and responds to space where is placed and exhibited. The form, and the content is constantly changing depending on space and visitors. The Visitors perception is the place where all this parts are being assembled together, so perception is one of mine significant field of interest in my work.
