€“Primordial II” is part of the Terrascape Series using the resin from the Australian grass tree which I collect after bush fires and grind down to powder to make into a lacquer, which once applied hardens like glass. This work is conflict. There is conflict between painterly techniques and materials, between earthy natural tones and bright acrylic colour. The use of the resin has pushed the boundaries of this media, it is unpredictable and constantly changes which causes a wonderful depth to the painting. It is ethereal, it is memory - like the first life emerging from the primordial slime.
